November 1, 2017 [Geo.tv] - Pakistan’s second Liquefied National Gas (LNG) terminal at Port Qasim has been completed and is expected to start operations from November 20.

The terminal will pump gas into the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) system during the last winter before the upcoming 2018 general elections.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is expected to inaugurate the new terminal situated along Karachi’s coast.

Pakistan GasPort Limited (PGPL) Chairman Iqbal Ahmed revealed that the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) will dock at the terminal on November 13.

He added that the vessel is carrying 170,000 cubic meters of gas, while the terminal has a capacity of 750 mmcfd and will pump approximately 600 mmfcd till a multi-billion pipeline is ready.

Ahmad elaborated and said the current gas infrastructure in the country can support pumping 600 mmfcd of gas to the north of the country.

Talking in regards to the terminal, Ahmad said vessels carrying LNG will make repeated voyages carrying 600 mmfcd of gas which can expand to 750 mmcfd.

The gas port consortium will also look for potential buyers for the remaining 150 mmcfd capacity and will supply the gas to customers.
