Oryx Energies Inaugurates Strategic Oil Terminal in the Canary Islands, Spain

October 3, 2014 [Oryx Energies] - Oryx Energies is pleased to announce the inauguration of its state-of-the-art oil terminal at Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands.

The 220,000 m3 storage facility is strategically placed on the main commercial route between Europe, West Africa and the Americas.

“We are pleased to officially open this new terminal in Las Palmas”, stated AOG founder and Chairman, Jean Claude Gandur, who is promoting Oryx Energies’ ambitious expansion plans. “It reinforces our position as a strategic player in the bunkering world. It also underlines our commitment to facilitating the flow of trade and to supporting economic and social development in and around the African continent, thanks to reliable supplies of oil and gas products and services.”

The facility, which complies with Europe’s strictest health, safety and environmental regulations, provides extensive professional storage capacity for third parties and Oryx Energies’ trading arm. It has a long, deep water jetty and a design that offers flexibility and fast loading/discharging rates for a wide variety of vessels and shipping operators.
Oryx Energies’ specialised bunkering service, Oryx Bunkering (part of its trading arm), provides fuels and marine lubricants to all categories of vessels inshore, offshore and on the high seas. The lubricants supplied are mainly from Oryx Energies’ latest blending plant in Togo.

The project, which qualified for funding from the European Union, received the Business Initiative of the Year Award from the Las Palmas Port Authorities in 2013. The award recognised the importance of the investment, which is expected to make the port one of the best bases for bunkering services on the Atlantic. The new terminal underlines Oryx Energies’ vision of becoming one of the most important, integrated downstream operations in the region.

Like the company’s other facilities, the Las Palmas site benefits from the company’s integrated model, marrying product sourcing (through its trading arm) and storage, to consistently deliver high quality products and services to its customers.

Oryx Energies also aims to leverage the presence of its affiliates along the West African coast to improve lead times on the delivery of essential petroleum supplies to countries along the coast and inland.
