Oman’s Refinery Output Jumps 39% in January

March 6, 2023 [MUSCAT DAILY] – Oman’s petroleum refineries recorded a sharp growth in their production of various types of fuels as local demand improved and exports increased.

 

Total refinery output jumped by 39.3 per cent in January 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, according to preliminary statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The production of M91 grade petrol rose 58.3 per cent year-on-year to 1.442mn barrels in January this year compared to the same period in 2022. Local sales of M91 grade petrol rose 21 per cent to 1.135mn barrels while its exports amounted to 198,300 barrels during the same period.

The output of M95 grade petrol also grew by 51.7 per cent to 843,900 barrels in January, the NCSI data showed.

However, local sales of M95 grade petrol decreased 3.9 per cent to 943,700 barrels while its exports amounted to 35,000 barrels during January.

Volumes of diesel production increased 26.5 per cent in January compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 2.842mn barrels. Diesel sales increased by 10.5 per cent to 1.165mn barrels while diesel exports grew 37.4 per cent to 1.718mn barrels.

In petrochemical products, polypropylene production and exports witnessed a sharp increase of 175.3 per cent and 339.7 per cent, respectively, while its local sales decreased by 41.9 per cent in January 2023 compared to the same period of 2022.

The production and exports of benzene also increased by 36.9 per cent and 111.3 per cent, respectively. The production and exports of paraxylene jumped 111.4 per cent and 136.1 per cent, respectively, in January 2023.
