PORT OF LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners have approved an environmental study for an oil pipeline extending to Terminal Island, a new 5-acre marine terminal and a tank farm to provide storage for up to 4 million barrels of oil at the busy shipping port.

The Plains All-American Pipe-line Project was approved by the Los Angeles Harbor Commission on Nov. 20. The estimated $500 million project will include construction and operation of a marine terminal at Berth 408 on Pier 400, new tank farm facilities and pipelines connecting the marine terminal and tank farms to local refineries, according to the Port of Los Angeles.

A pipeline extending to Terminal Island will connect to 14 additional 250,000-barrel storage tanks situated on a 48-acre tank farm.

Boaters and area residents were able to offer comments on the project during the Draft Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) public comment period, held prior to the plan’s approval. Forty-two verbal comments were received during the public meeting and were included in the final SEIR.
