March 12, 2022 [TheStar] – Northport (M) Bhd, a unit of the MMC Group, and Dubai-based Sea Hawk Lines Shipping LLC have inked a strategic collaboration agreement to develop a conventional liquid bulk business in Northport.

“As part of Northport’s development strategy over the last five years, we have been creating space and adding new facilities to handle conventional cargo.

“For Northport, this collaboration is a step forward in our quest to expand our liquid bulk business, which contributed the second-highest volume to our total conventional cargo throughput in 2021,” said Northport chief executive officer Datuk Azman Shah Mohd Yusof (pic) in a statement.

Both companies said they would collaborate and share their respective experiences, expertise, technical capabilities, resources and knowledge with the aim of positioning Northport as the regional distribution hub for Sea Hawk’s liquid bulk customers in Asean.

Northport said that last year, it recorded 9.66 million freight weight tonnes of cargo, which is its second-highest conventional cargo performance since the establishment of Northport through the merger of Klang Container Terminal and Klang Port Management in the year 2000.

It noted that the liquid bulk business contributed 30.4% of the total throughput.

Incorporated in 2016 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sea Hawk is a provider of integrated logistics and warehousing services including liner operations, custom clearance as well as handling of reconditioned cars and general cargo in the Middle-East.

“Strategic location is one of the key factors in our decision to make Port Klang as the hub for our business operations.

“As Northport is one of the ports in Port Klang that provides the facilities that suit the business needs of our liquid bulk customers, we are delighted to enter into this collaboration and we look forward to grow our business with Northport,” said Sea Hawk director Mani Krishnan.

Currently, Sea Hawk occupies 240,000 sq ft of warehouse space owned by Northport and the company is developing 6.06 acres of land to build a 100,000-sq-ft warehouse facility for their mineral hub in Northport.

“We are very confident that this collaboration will benefit both parties and we look forward to further growth in our conventional cargo throughput,” said Azman.
