March 11, 2014 [The Sunday Leader] - The Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited has initiated a plan to construct a new storage facility in Pallai, and shift the operations of the storage facility in Kankasanthurai to the new location. This move was made with the expansion of the Northern railway line up to Pallai.

Addressing a press conference last Friday, the Chairman/Managing Director of CPSTL Major General M.R.W de Zoysa said that the CPSTL had already allocated a 40 acre land in Pallai from the JEDB for the construction of the new storage facility. “We plan to construct tanks sufficient for a month’s storage for petrol diesel and kerosene. It would make the transportation and distribution of fuel more cost effective and convenient,” he added.

Zoysa also stated that the CPSTL has also planned to construct a further six storage tanks of 10,000 metric ton capacity in Kolonnawa and four tanks in Muthurajawela.

He said that the CPSTL also is constructing a state of the art fuel testing laboratory in Kolonnawa at a cost of Rs. 150 million. He added that the octane machine expected to be installed at the facility would cost Rs. 80 million and it would be the only machine in the country.
