New Fortress Energy Signs Five-Year Charter for Energos Winter FSRU with EGAS

July 17, 2025 [Yahoo Finance]- New Fortress Energy (NFE) has finalised a five-year charter for the deployment of the Energos Winter, a 138,250m³ floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

This agreement marks the introduction of the company’s second FSRU in Egypt.

The Energos Winter is set to operate at EGAS’ LNG import terminal in Damietta, Egypt, joining the Energos Eskimo as early as next month.

NFE CFO Chris Guinta said: “We are pleased to reinforce our relationship with EGAS by way of our deployment of a second FSRU to Egypt. This deal enhances NFE’s goals of providing reliable and cost-effective energy across the globe.”

EGAS executive managing director Yasseen Mohamed said: “EGAS is pleased to strengthen its long-standing partnership with New Fortress Energy through the execution of a second regasification service agreement. Under this agreement, NFE’s second FSRU, Energos Winter, will provide regasification services at the Damietta terminal, contributing to the security of natural gas supply for the Arab Republic of Egypt over the next five years.”

Egypt has also secured a series of agreements to procure between 150 and 160 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through 2026, which are expected to cost the country more than $8bn.

These agreements involve several global energy companies and trading houses, including BGN, PetroChina, Saudi Aramco, Shell, SOCAR, Trafigura, and Vitol.

This move is part of Egypt’s strategy to meet its rising power demands, especially given the current economic challenges.

In a separate transaction, New Fortress Energy completed the sale of its liquefaction and storage facility in Miami in July 2024.

The facility, which is a small-scale operation with a single liquefaction train capable of producing 8,300MBtu [million British thermal units] of LNG a day, was acquired by a US-based middle-market infrastructure fund based in the US.
