Netherlands to Subsidise 11 Green Hydrogen Projects with EUR 700m
07.23.2025 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

July 23, 2025 [Renewables Now]- The Dutch government has awarded over EUR 700 million (USD 818.2m) in subsidies to 11 green hydrogen projects to cover the cost gap between the production of sustainable and fossil-based hydrogen.

The selected projects have a combined electrolysis capacity of 602 MW. They were allocated in the second round of the Dutch government’s OWE (Scaling Up Hydrogen via Electrolysis) subsidy scheme that aims to promote the deployment of large-scale renewable hydrogen capacity.

While the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) received applications for more than EUR 3.2 billion of subsidies, the competitive round’s total available budget of EUR 998 million remained untapped. The government said that incentives were denied to projects that were not economically viable or could not demonstrate that the produced hydrogen would actually be used.

The average subsidy amount for the 11 winning projects is EUR 1.78 million per MW of electrolysis capacity. The list of winners includes Air Liquide Industrie, Circul8 Hydrogen Factory, The Toll Sustainable, Essent Hydrogen, Eurus Energy Europe, FR Energyhubs, H2Eron, Statkraft Renewables Benelux, Uniper Hydrogen Netherlands, Vattenfall and Westphalia Hydrogen.

The subsidised projects should be completed by mid-2030.
