Neste Signs SAF Supply Deal with Singapore Airlines

May 08, 2024 [Renewables Now]- Finnish refiner and renewable fuels producer Neste Oyj on Monday said it will supply 1,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group from its local refinery in the Asian country.

The agreement calls for Neste to blend the SAF with conventional jet fuel and deliver it to Changi Airport’s fuel hydrant system in two batches. The deliveries will take place in the second and fourth quarters of this year, respectively, and will benefit SIA Group air carriers SIA and Scoot.

The fuel will be made at Neste’s refinery at Changi Airport, which was expanded last year to produce one million tonnes of SAF annually. According to Neste, this is currently the largest SAF production facility globally.

The contract backs SIA Group’s efforts to use at least 5% of SAF in its total fuel uplift by 2030. It marks the first direct supply of Neste’s SAF to airlines at that airport.

“This supply of locally produced SAF to Changi Airport is a milestone in our journey of supporting the aviation industry and governments in the region to achieve their emissions reduction goals,” said Alexander Kueper, vice president Renewable Aviation at Neste.
