June 6, 2013 [MOL Group] - MOL continues to optimize its logistics supply chain in Romania, completing the first construction phase of a new fuel terminal in Giurgiu. The project includes the construction of a 7,000 cbm greenfield storage facility, following a total investment of approximately 10 million euros.
“Romania is included in the long-term growth strategy of MOL Group, and the inauguration of the fuel terminal in Giurgiu is a significant milestone to this extent. Along with the expansion and modernization of the filling stations network, the optimization of the logistics chain is an important driver of efficiency improvement, both locally and at MOL Group level”, stated Kinga Daradics, Country Chairman MOL Romania.
The Giurgiu terminal is located in the Free Zone, on an approximately 15,000 sqm site, and the storage facilities have direct access to river transportation. The first phase of the project, inaugurated today, will ensure diesel fuel storage and sales.
The terminal is equipped with a fully-automated computer operated truck loading system as well as with automated additivation technology. As the terminal is automated, there is a minimum need of human intervention in the technological processes related to the supply of fuels produced by MOL Group refineries. In the second stage, construction of all tanks of the terminal will be completed, leading to a total storage capacity of 7,000 cubic meters.
“This investment will address the needs of the growing distribution network of MOL Romania, which posts higher sales volumes each year. Also, our clients and partners will benefit from the high-quality products supplied by MOL Group’s refineries”, Kinga Daradics added.
The fuels will be stored in above the ground reservoirs, equipped with state of the art safety and protection systems, including automated volume and temperature measurement technology, fixed fire-extinction systems, including early warning and alarm sensors. The terminal is also equipped with vapor recovery units to minimize emissions of volatile organic compounds, observing the highest standards in the field. The tanks will have double walls or will be placed in leak proof concrete over-flow basins.
