Makeen Energy, Nature Energy Kick Off Work On Denmark’s First LBG Plant
11.09.2022 By Ella Keskin - NEWS

November 9, 2022 [LNG Prime] – Makeen Energy and Nature Energy have started building what they say is the first biogas liquefaction (LBG) plant in Denmark.

According to a statement by Makeen, the two firms officially started building the facility which will supply LBG, or bio-LNG, for the shipping and heavy transport sector on November 4.

Last year, the two firms announced plans to jointly build the Nordliq plant in the Port of Frederikshavn.

Makeen designed the plant and is responsible for its construction, while Nature Energy will supply biogas to the facility.

The plant will have the capacity to produce 20,000 tons of LBG per year, but there are plans to boost the production up to 120,000 tons per year.

In 2021, biogas made up around 25 percent of all gas in the Danish gas grid, but this share is expected to rise to around 40 percent this year, Makeen said.

The partners expect to launch this LBG facility in summer next year.
