February 19, 2012 [OPIS] - Magellan Midstream Partners announced yesterday morning it is adding ethanol storage and distribution services at its Mt. Pleasant, Texas, facility.

The $2 million project, to be operational in early March, includes the conversion of a 17,000 barrel tank and a new sequential blending system, the company announced. The terminal will receive ethanol via truck.

According to Magellan spokesman Bruce Heine, the company began construction on the terminal in the fourth quarter of 2011. “We are adding ethanol storage and distribution services to our Mt. Pleasant terminal to meet the needs of our customers,” he explained. “The new services provide our customers with an option which could be helpful for compliance with the Renewable Fuels Standard,” he added.

“We are pleased to increase our renewable fuel-related service options for our customers in northeast Texas,” said Jeff Selvidge, Magellan’s senior vice president of Transportation and Terminals. The company now offers ethanol storage and blending services at 71 of its terminals throughout 22 states.

Meanwhile, the Mt. Pleasant terminal offers storage and distribution services for regular and premium gasoline along with diesel fuel. Magellan’s Texas terminals in East Houston, Southlake, Dallas, Frost, West Ft. Worth, Odessa and El Paso also offer services for a variety of refined petroleum products and ethanol storage and blending services, the company noted.
