Malaysia's Dialog Group Bhd is moving ahead with plans for a bunker supply point at one of the fastest growing ports in the Middle East. Reports on Monday said Dialog Services Saudi Arabia Company Limited (Dialog Saudi), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Dialog Group, will develop a supply base at the Jubail Commercial Port (JCP) in Saudi Arabia. They said Dialog Saudi last week signed an agreement to lease 3.45 hectares land within JCP to build the maritime logistics hub. The lease is for 20 years, with an option to extend for a further five years.

According to the news service Asia Pulse, the site for the Jubail supply base already has a 300-metre wharf in a sheltered all-weathered basin. It quoted Dialog sources as saying the plan was to provide an integrated logistic hub to support the growing offshore oil and gas industry in the Arabian Gulf. The first phase of the development would begin immediately, said the sources. The logistics hub will provide bunker fuel, as well as workshops, warehouses and storage.Estimated expenditure for phase one was put at around $26.85 million.Jubail, on the east coast of Saudi Arabia, saw a growth in throughput of over 50% in the period 2004 to 2008.
In July, Dialog Group signed an agreement with storage specialist Royal Vopak to carry out feasibility studies on the development of an oil products storage terminal in Pengerang in southern Malaysia, close to international shipping routes and Singapore.
Dialog Group Bhd, is a technical services provider to the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
