Lhyfe, Strabag Tie up to Deploy Green Hydrogen Plants in Germany
05.28.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

May 28, 2026 [Renewables Now]- France’s Lhyfe has joined forces with Austrian construction company Strabag to install green hydrogen production plants in Germany and potentially in other European markets.

The co-development partnership agreement covers both the production and supply of the green fuel. The companies said on Thursday that the collaboration will set the stage for identifying and executing future projects together, expecting to achieve faster project planning and implementation and reduced execution risks.

The duo will bet on Lhyfe’s operational expertise in green hydrogen and Strabag’s planning and construction experience. It explained that the German market was chosen due to the favourable market environment after the country introduced mandatory quotas for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) to implement the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III). According to them, the transposition of the directive establishes “a regulated and predictable demand framework” for RFNBO hydrogen.

With all of its operating production sites being certified, Lhyfe says it is the largest producer of RFNBO hydrogen in Europe by water electrolysis. The Nantes-based company currently owns four facilities and has two more under construction across Europe.
