July 21, 2023 [H2 View]- JERA Co. and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have signed a strategic collaboration agreement to see the two cooperation on clean hydrogen and ammonia.

Building off previous hydrogen and ammonia feasibility assessments, the latest agreement will see the companies collaborate on building a value chain for hydrogen and ammonia, while expanding business opportunities.

In recent years JERA has been increasing its activity in hydrogen and ammonia with key focuses on imports and power generation. The Japanese company is also looking to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 and says it will be looking to establish and expand hydrogen supply chains.

ADNOC’s home nation of the UAE earlier this month (July 2023) approved its national hydrogen strategy, looking to establish itself as a key global exporter of the energy carrier.

Under the previous feasibility assessments, ADNOC collaborated with JERA and other Japanese companies including INPEX, and government agency Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC).

The group’s joint study agreement saw them explore the potential for both hydrogen and blue ammonia in the UAE.
