Jask Oil Terminal to Shorten Tankers’ Trip

November 11, 2015 [MEHR News Agency] - Describing the new program to reduce commute of Iranian oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, managing director of NIOEC said construction of Jask oil terminal is to shorten the tanker’s journey.

Mir Ali Asghar Sajedi, Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company (NIOEC), explained Iran’s new plan to build the second largest oil terminal in the Persian Gulf adding “construction of terminals and crude oil storage tanks in the port of Jask marks the government’s main objective in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.”

Sajedi enumerated major ongoing tasks to turn Jask into Iran’s new oil and gas hub including construction of berths for import and export of crude oil, establishment of an oil and gas refinery as well as creation of petrochemical complexes.

Referring to the geographical position and strategic advantages of Jaks port for becoming the country’s new oil and gas pole, the official asserted, “Jask possesses great geographical importance since all ships enter the area without the need to cross the Persian Gulf.”

Sajedi maintained that construction of pipelines in order to transfer crude oil from other fields to Jask terminal has been put on the agenda; “accordingly, an approximately 1100-kilometer-long pipeline will be built,” he noted.

“The initial studies and job description of crude oil pipeline construction have been carried out, ready for the consultation phase as well as that the basic design, geotechnical and mapping stages of the pipeline are being undertaken,” reiterated Sajedi.
