Infinium Signs Carbon Deal with SMA Mineral for eSAF Site

May 15, 2024 [Biofuels International]- Infinium has signed an agreement to utilise the CO2 produced by SMA Mineral at its Zero Emission Quick Lime (ZEQL) manufacturing facility in the Mo Industrial Park as feedstock to produce e-sustainable aviation fuels (eSAF).

Infinium is currently developing an eFuels project at the Mo Industrial Park in Norway to produce efuels primarily eSAF.

“eFuels are the most versatile and effective solution for decarbonising transportation, particularly aviation, and Infinium is proud to spearhead the commercial development of eFuels in the Americas and Europe,” said Robert Schuetzle, CEO, Infinium.
“Their partnership with SMA will help us realise their vision of a carbon-neutral future. The project has the potential to grow and exemplifies their commitment to supporting sustainable mobility.”
SMA’s ZEQL facility electrifies lime burning using renewable power and extracts a pure stream of CO2 and therefore does not require an additional carbon capture unit.
“Through their expertise in novel, sustainable quicklime production and their agreement with Infinium, SMA is poised to play a significant role in reducing the carbon footprint of multiple sectors that are critical to the European economy,” said Svante Fielding, CEO of SMA.
Earlier this in year in January, Infinium and Mo Industrial Park announced their plans to develop e-fuels project in Mo i Rana, Norway.
The project will have the capacity to produce an initial 2,000 barrels per day (BPD) of e-fuels including eSAF, eDiesel and eNaphtha with the capacity to expand.
Mo i Rana, industrial park in northern Norway, has already committed land for the eFuels project and renewable power required to produce green hydrogen as a feedstock for the Infinium process.
