INEOS Expands LNG Business Into Asia With Marubeni Supply Deal
06.02.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

June 02, 2026 [Yahoo Finance]- INEOS Energy is expanding its global LNG business into Asia after signing a long-term supply agreement with Japan’s Marubeni Corporation for deliveries beginning in 2029.

Under the deal, INEOS will supply LNG on a Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) basis, meaning the company will be responsible for transporting cargoes directly to receiving terminals in Asia. The agreement marks INEOS Energy’s first LNG deliveries into the Pacific Basin and represents a significant step in the company’s efforts to build a globally diversified LNG portfolio.

The move broadens INEOS Energy’s reach beyond its traditional Atlantic Basin operations and gives the company exposure to Asia, the world’s largest and fastest-growing LNG demand center. Asian LNG consumption continues to be supported by rising electricity demand, industrial growth, and efforts by several countries to replace coal with lower-emission natural gas.

Chief Executive Officer David Bucknall said the agreement provides a platform for further growth in Asia and strengthens the company’s strategy of developing a flexible and diversified LNG trading portfolio.

For Marubeni, one of Japan’s largest trading houses with extensive energy interests, the agreement helps secure additional LNG supply as Asian buyers continue to seek reliable long-term sources of gas amid tightening global competition for LNG cargoes.

The deal comes as LNG suppliers increasingly position themselves to capture demand growth across Asia, particularly in emerging markets where natural gas is expected to play a larger role in power generation and industrial activity. It also reflects the growing importance of portfolio players that can supply LNG across multiple regions rather than relying on production from a single project.

The agreement reinforces INEOS Energy’s ambitions to become a larger participant in global LNG markets while strengthening supply links between Atlantic and Pacific Basin trading hubs. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2029.
