March 1, 2021 [Hydrocarbon Engineering] – Infraestructura Energética Nova, S.A.B. de C.V. (IEnova) has formally inaugurated its terminal for the receipt, storage and delivery of refined products in the New Port of Veracruz, Mexico.

This project, with a capacity to store more than 2 million bbl of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, contributes to ensure national energy security and provide reliable, safe and efficient access to fuels in the Gulf-Center region.

The event, carried out under total compliance with sanitary safety measures, had the participation of Secretary of Energy, Rocío Nahle, the Governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, as well as various federal and local officials and legislators.

The construction of the project began in November 2018, and on 7 December 2020 it received its first ship from Valero Mexico, the main customer of the terminal. Its development implied an investment of over 6000 million pesos and the creation of 5500 direct and indirect jobs. Its operation will boost local and regional economy that will generate a positive impact on the entire value chain of the energy sector in the region.

“This is the first of several refined product storage terminals that IEnova is developing in Mexico to enhance the country’s energy security. With this infrastructure, we reaffirm our long-term commitment to the sustainable development of Mexico, generating jobs, economic growth and implementing socio-environmental programs that promote the conservation of natural resources and the development of the communities where we operate,” said Tania Ortiz Mena, CEO of IEnova.

“The Veracruz storage terminal is part of Valero Mexico’s long-term strategy to provide fuel supply certainty to our distributors and end customers. We found in IEnova a strategic partner to develop, through long-term contracts, infrastructure that allows us to efficiently bring our world-class products to the Mexican consumer, while contributing to the country’s energy security,” said Carlos García, CEO of Valero Mexico.

Currently, IEnova has other terminals for the receipt, storage and delivery of refined products under development, including the ones in Puebla and Valle de México that will be interconnected to this new terminal in Veracruz.
