H2Apex Completes Acquisition of 1GW German Green Hydrogen Project from Insolvent HH2E
07.07.2025 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

July 07, 2025 [Blackridge Research]- H2Apex has become the sole owner of HH2E Werk Lubmin GmbH, a strategically important hydrogen project in Lubmin, Germany. The acquisition was completed on July 1, 2025, following the conclusion of insolvency proceedings for HH2E Werk Lubmin GmbH. This move expands H2Apex’s production capacities at Germany’s most attractive hydrogen location.

Project Details

The acquired project has a grid connection from 50Hertz and a water supply, making it an ideal location for a hydrogen project. H2Apex plans to build a 100 MW plant in the first expansion stage by 2028, which will be expanded to 1,000 MW in the medium term. The company is also developing an electrolysis plant on its own land in Lubmin, with the first phase of 100 MW scheduled for completion in 2028.

Location Significance

Lubmin is considered an attractive location for domestic hydrogen production due to its direct access to offshore wind farms and the future hydrogen gas network “FLOW”. H2Apex’s CEO, Peter Rossner, expressed the company’s conviction that Lubmin is the most interesting location for hydrogen production, citing its access to sustainably generated energy and the planned hydrogen transmission network.

Capacity Expansion

With the acquisition, H2Apex now plans to have a total of 1.6GW renewable hydrogen capacity in northern Germany. The company has transferred part of the HH2E team, securing important specialists for its operations. The next steps at the site include analyzing the current project status and setting up the project based on the current status quo. The acquisition of HH2E Werk Lubmin GmbH marks a significant expansion of H2Apex’s green hydrogen production capabilities in Germany, and the company is poised to advance its strategic focus on large-scale hydrogen production and distribution.
