February 05, 2025 [Renewables Now]- Dubai-based developer H2 Global Energy on Monday said it has completed initial studies for the development of a green hydrogen and ammonia project in Morocco.

Planned for the southern region of the country, the project is expected to produce 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. It will harness Morocco’s ample solar and wind resources to produce green hydrogen, which will be converted into green ammonia to support decarbonisation in sectors such as agriculture, transportation and energy storage.

Further steps are being taken to finalise project financing and engineering design, according to the announcement.

The company said that recently a team from H2 Global Energy completed a series of meetings with governmental bodies in Rabat to discuss the regulatory framework, investment opportunities and collaboration needed to advance the project.

“We are excited about the potential of this project to support Morocco’s transition to a green economy and enhance its position in the global energy market,” said H2 Global Energy chief commercial officer Waleed AlHallaj.
