H-TEC SYSTEMS and Bilfinger Join Forces for Green Hydrogen Projects in Europe
05.09.2024 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

May 09, 2024 [Chem Analyst]- H-TEC SYSTEMS, an innovative leader in PEM electrolysis technology, and Bilfinger, a prominent global industrial services provider, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of green hydrogen projects in Europe. This non-exclusive strategic partnership focuses on jointly advancing large-scale electrolysis projects.

At the heart of the partnership between H-TEC SYSTEMS and Bilfinger is the joint development of concepts for green hydrogen projects and the harmonization of technical and commercial interfaces between the two entities. This strategy not only provides flexibility in project-specific contractual arrangements but also ensures the seamless integration of expertise to achieve optimized project outcomes.

Both firms are steadfast in their belief in the essential role of green hydrogen in reshaping the energy sector, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to propel the hydrogen economy forward. Anticipating substantial growth in global demand for green hydrogen in the foreseeable future, the partners recognize significant business opportunities in addressing this market. Leveraging their complementary strengths, Bilfinger as an industrial plant service provider and H-TEC SYSTEMS as a PEM electrolysis supplier (OEM), they aim to make a significant contribution to this transformative process.

PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysis represents a technology that divides water into hydrogen and oxygen via an electrical current directed through a specialized membrane. This membrane facilitates enhanced efficiency and quicker response rates. Moreover, PEM electrolysis functions at lower temperatures and pressures, rendering it better suited for decentralized and on-demand hydrogen production purposes. This minimizes energy consumption and emissions linked to hydrogen delivery to end-users.

In large-scale electrolysis projects, the primary electrolysis component is typically managed by an OEM, while clients often enlist an EPC/EPCM company or plant integrator to handle balance-of-plant aspects. Well-defined interfaces and detailed standardized plant concepts are seen as significant value additions for all stakeholders involved.

As per the agreement, both parties aim to explore collaborating as preferred partners for relevant projects, wherein they perceive mutual value creation stemming from their complementary offerings.

“They are delighted with the partnership with H-TEC SYSTEMS, which is designed to address the increasing demands of their clients while enhancing project execution and efficiency,” remarked Ulrich Trebbe, Product Manager H2 at Bilfinger. “Their collaboration holds the potential to significantly advance the sustainable evolution of their energy infrastructure toward zero-carbon technologies. Innovation, technological prowess, cost-effectiveness, and customer-centricity will be pivotal in this transition.”

“They are thrilled to establish this partnership with Bilfinger,” expressed Robin von Plettenberg, CEO of H-TEC SYSTEMS. “Their partnership provides a core value proposition to their mutual clients. Customers aiming to invest in a green hydrogen plant seek dependable and trustworthy partners capable of providing standardized, optimized, and replicable plant concepts. This, in turn, aids in mitigating overall project complexity, risks, and costs.”
