GreenH to Develop Hydrogen Production and Refuelling Site for Indian Train Project
12.12.2023 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

December 12, 2023 [H2 View]- GreenH Electrolysis has agreed to develop a hydrogen production and refuelling station to support India’s ‘first’ hydrogen-powered train.

The joint venture (JV) between H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies and GR Promoter Group entered into a contract with Medha Servo Drives, agreeing to build the facilities in Jind, Haryana.

Under the Indian Railways “Hydrogen fer Heritage” initiative, Medha was awarded a contract for a pilot project to retrofit a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit rake, on the Sonipat-Jind section, to hydrogen and therefore achieve Indian Railways Net Zero goals.

GreenH will provide the necessary equipment from its newly constructed PEM electrolyser manufacturing plant in the Jhajjar District, Haryana. The JV will supply a 1MW electrolyser which will operate round the clock and boast a capacity of 420kg per day of hydrogen. The refuelling infrastructure is expected to integrate 3,000kg of hydrogen storage, hydrogen compressors, and two hydrogen dispensers.

The hydrogen dispensers will feature pre-cooler integration, allowing for quick refuelling of the trains, and can adapt to their routes. The hydrogen production and refuelling station will be a turn-key solution, providing full support to the end user through long-term service agreement for operation and maintenance purposes.

CEO and Director of GreenH Electrolysis, Dhiman Roy, said, “We are delighted to be a part of this prestigious Indian Railways project that has the potential to revolutionise our country’s lifeline and decarbonise the transport sector.”
