October 6, 2023 [LNG Prime]- LNG exports from the Gladstone port in Australia’s Queensland rose in September compared to the same month last year, according to the monthly data by Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Curtis Island is home to the Santos-operated GLNG plant, the ConocoPhillips-led APLNG terminal, and Shell’s QCLNG facility. These are the only LNG export facilities on Australia’s east coast.

Last month, about 2,025 million tonnes of LNG or 31 cargoes left the three Gladstone terminals on Curtis Island.

This compares to about 1,902 million tonnes of LNG or 30 cargoes in September 2022, the data shows.

September LNG exports rose by some 6.5 percent year-on-year and by about about 10.3 percent compared to the previous month when LNG exports reached some 1,836 million tonnes of LNG or 28 cargoes.

Moreover, most of September LNG exports, or 1,135 million tonnes, landed in China, marking a drop of 6.4 percent compared to 1,213 million tonnes last year.

Volumes to South Korea also dropped to 297,638 tonnes from 381,055 tonnes last year, while volumes to Japan increased to 263,640 tonnes last month from 127,213 tonnes last year.

GPC also reported that 131,877 tonnes of LNG were sent to Singapore, 125,136 tonnes were sent to Malaysia, and 71,810 tonnes were sent to Thailand.

Volumes to Singapore rose from 57,295 tonnes in September last year, while Malaysian volumes were almost flat.
