Gasum Aelects Wartsila for Another BioLNG Project in Sweden

November 11, 2024 [Reuters]- Wartsila Gas Solutions, part of technology group Wartsila, will supply Nordic energy company Gasum with biogas upgrading and liquefaction solutions for their new bioLNG plant. The plant will produce high-quality bioLNG from agricultural and organic household waste. The order was booked by Wartsila in Q4 2024.

When operational, the Wartsila offering will be capable of producing 25 tons of bioLNG per day. bioLNG is formed by purifying biogas to high-quality bio methane before it is liquefied at minus 160 °C.

“This new plant is an important part in fulfilling our ambitious goal of bringing 7 TWh worth of renewable gas annually to the Nordic market. We are happy to continue our cooperation with Wartsila in this second big greenfield biogas plant investment project in Sweden”, says Eero Lallukka, Senior Manager, Procurement at Gasum.

In addition to the biogas upgrading and liquefaction systems, the Wartsila scope includes a 200 cbm storage tank and an export and filling station. The delivery includes preparation for a future system expansion and the installation of a second liquefaction unit. The solution is almost identical to Gasume’s Gotene Plant which Wartsila is currently delivering and will be started up later this year.

“The decarbonisation of customer operations is at the front and centre of Wartsila’s strategy. Our biogas upgrading and liquefaction solutions are a central pillar of this commitment, and we are delighted to continue our support of Gasum,” comments Rolf Hakansson, Sales Manager Biogas, Wartsila Gas Solutions.

The new plant will be commissioned for commercial production at the beginning of 2026.
