May 20, 2019 [Powder Bulk Solids] – Oil and chemicals firm ExxonMobil recently completed an expansion project that doubled the firm’s capacity for specialty elastomers at its Newport, Wales plant, a company release said Monday. Two new production lines were installed at the site, which created 35 new full-time jobs.
“ExxonMobil’s high-performance plastics help make automotive and consumer products lighter, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and higher performance, compared with products made with traditional materials,” ExxonMobil Chemical Company President Karen McKee said in a statement. “This Newport investment doubles the site’s manufacturing capacity of higher-value products.”
The two new lines increase the firm’s global capacity for Santoprene thermoplastic elastomers by 25%. Santoprene is a material that behaves like vulcanized rubber and can be reused.
A facility operated by ExxonMobile in Pensacola, FL also manufactures the Santoprene brand of elastomers.
