Exolum Invests €12 Million in Lanzarote Airport Fuel Terminal

May 08, 2024 [Tank Storage]- Exolum will invest €12 million in the construction of a new aviation fuel storage terminal and a new loading area for refuelling units at the Lanzarote airport, Spain. This new infrastructure will make it possible to offer better service to the various operators at the airport and maximise efficiency.

The new facility will have a storage capacity of at least 6,000 m3, divided amongst three aboveground tanks, with space and facilities foreseen for the construction of a fourth tank in the future. It will also feature two positions for simultaneous discharge of road tankers and a loading position for emergency situations.

The new loading area for refuelling units, in turn, will have four positions for Jet A1 loading, and the two facilities will be connected by means of underground pipes. An airside loading and unloading facility, along with a 3,000-litre AVGAS 100LL storage tank will also be available.

This full renovation includes new access roads and parking areas for into-plane fuelling vehicles. Furthermore, significant enhancements will be made in terms of energy efficiency, such as the construction of a photovoltaic power plant and installation of electric vehicle charging points. This new infrastructure will also be fitted out with state-of-the-art safety and environmental protection systems.

In addition, the project includes dismantling of the current facilities and existing pipeline and, when the work has been completed – in approximately three years– the company will operate the new facility for a period of 12 years.

The Lanzarote airport is the second airport, along with Tenerife Sur, operated by Exolum on the Canary Islands, thus positioning the company ideally to continue growing on the islands in the aviation fuel storage and distribution infrastructure management sector, in which Exolum has gained extensive experience through its activities at airports across Europe and Latin America.
