ENERTRAG Launches Auction for 500 Tons of Green Hydrogen at E-World 2025

February 17, 2025 [ENERTRAG]- ENERTRAG, a leading renewable energy and green hydrogen producer company, launched a public auction for 500 tons of green hydrogen at E-World 2025. The Expo, taking place in Essen from 11-13 February, provides a central platform to foster the hydrogen economy.

Electrolyser in Osterweddingen: a milestone for the energy transition

An electrolyser plant is currently under construction in Osterweddingen, near Magdeburg, and will commence operations by the end of 2025. With a capacity of 10 MW, it will produce around 900 tons of green hydrogen annually. The feedstock in a form of  electrical energy will come exclusively from onshore sources, in particular from ENERTRAG’s wind fields. The green hydrogen production plant will help to stabilize the power grid by balancing out fluctuations in the generation of electricity from wind and solar energy. It also represents an important step towards the decarbonisation of industry.

Auction for early allocation of 500 tons of hydrogen

Of the planned annual production, 500 tons will be auctioned off in advance during  E-World 2025. The aim is to provide the companies with early access to green hydrogen and to support the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy. With 500 tons of hydrogen, it is possible to produce around 5,000 tons of green steel, provide the fuel for H2 buses or trucks to cover around 5 million kilometres, or produce 2,500 tonnes of green methanol.

‘The challenges of ramping up the hydrogen economy require inventiveness  and determination. Through this auction, we are sending a clear signal for the beginning of a new era in energy supply,’ explains Thomas Barkmann, Head of Sales H2 at ENERTRAG. ’We are delighted that ENERTRAG is commissioning  the hydrogen production plant this summer.’

ENERTRAG is developing hydrogen plants at numerous other locations along the H2 core network. Two new hydrogen plants with a total electrolysis capacity of 185 MW are going to be built along the H2-backbone (Kernnetz)in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Together, they will produce up to 17,000 tons of hydrogen annually from 2028, thus making an important contribution to a sustainable energy supply.
