March 6, 2023 [silicon canals] – Tirat Carmel, Israel-based Electriq, an hydrogen solution provider, announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Zenith Energy Terminals to build the world’s first ‘Electriq Powder’ manufacturing plant at the Port of Amsterdam.

Compared to conventional hydrogen in gaseous or liquid form, Electriq Powder features superior safety and energy density, claims the company. It acts like daily used detergent powder, simplifying storage, transport, and use of hydrogen in last mile, off-grid and backup applications.

The hydrogen powder can be converted into electricity using patented, compact generators.

The partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct Electriq’s first powder plant at Zenith Energy’s terminal in Amsterdam.

The agreement includes the production of green hydrogen using renewable energy generated by Zenith’s on-site wind turbines.

“The Electriq Powder plant is a great example of the ongoing energy transition in our port towards a sustainable fuel hub,” says Koen Overtoom, CEO of Port of Amsterdam. “We are very happy to host new activities such as this plant and are keen to facilitate this type of intensified land-use and collaboration between parties in the port area”.

Electriq: Developing circular green fuel solutions

Led by Baruch Halpert, Electriq is an end-to-end safe Hydrogen solution provider developing circular green fuel solutions for the clean energy market.

Incorporated in Australia, the company operates in the EU from The Netherlands, with its R&D centre in Israel.

Electriq’s patented technology spans the entire energy ecosystem, including storage, transport, and release, with hydrogen at its core.

“This plant is the first of its kind in the world and will serve our customers in the Benelux market,” says Baruch Halpert, Executive Chairman and CEO of Electriq. “The Netherlands is an early adopter of hydrogen as the fuel of the 21st century, and we see this Electriq Powder plant as a key enabler to leverage this in an innovative, safe, and industrial manner.”
