July 31, 2013 [Biz Journals] - Crosstex Energy LP continues to boost its presence in the Utica Shale play as its reactivates a rail terminal east of Newark to move light oil condensate to refineries and the petrochemical market.

The Dallas-based midstream energy company said it recently reopened its Black Run rail terminal along the Ohio Central Railroad in Frazeysburg to allow for the export of Utica shale condensate, a lighter grade of conventional crude oil.

The terminal, operated by Crosstex subsidiary Ohio Oil Gathering LLC, can load 24,000 barrels of oil a day and is adjacent to the company’s oil-gathering pipeline.

The Black Run terminal also will use existing oil storage tanks at the site as well as the company’s truck fleet to transport oil condensate from the Utica play.

A Crosstex spokesman told me the terminal has been used to move other products out of the region for many years. In addition, the company has operated storage facilities and trucking operations from Ohio Oil Gathering’s regional office in Frazeysburg near the Muskingum and Licking county line.

As we’ve reported, has made investments in three natural gas compressor stations in eastern Ohio to serve the Utica play.

The company has acquired Clearfield Energy Inc., a crude oil, condensate and water services company, formed E2 Energy Services to focus on condensate stabilization and natural gas compression, and made upgrades to existing storage facilities, trucking operations and brine disposal services.
