April 03, 2025 [Reuters]- Colombia’s state-run energy company Ecopetrol plans to invest between $500 million and $700 million to build a plant to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) jet fuel, company’s president Ricardo Roa said on Wednesday.

The new plant, to be built at the Barrancabermeja refinery, will start its development phase between this and next year, Roa told journalists.

Production at the plant is expected to start by 2030, and by the time it would produce some 6,000 barrels of SAF per day, according to the director.

Ecopetrol has set a $5.9 billion to $6.8 billion investment plan for this year, funded mainly by its own cash reserves, which ended 2024 at $4.4 billion.
