Chlorum Solutions Acquires Iowa Chlor-Alkali Facility from Cargill
12.15.2025 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

December 15, 2025 [Chemical Engineering]- Chlorum Solutions USA LLC (Chicago) announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Eddyville Chlor-Alkali, LLC (ECA), a subsidiary of Cargill, Inc. (Minneapolis, Minn.), located in Eddyville, Iowa. The transaction is expected to close in Q2 2026. ECA operates a state-of-the-art chlor-alkali facility producing sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, and caustic soda using advanced membrane technology.

Chlorum’s business model centers on producing chlor-alkali products closer to end-use markets, lowering the risks and costs associated with transportation while improving supply chain reliability for its customers. The Eddyville facility already serves multiple Cargill operations and regional manufacturers, making it an ideal strategic fit for Chlorum’s proximity-based production approach.

“Safety and efficiency are top priorities,” said Daniel Croce, CEO of Chlorum Solutions USA. “The Eddyville facility is a key supplier to manufacturers across the Midwest, and is committed to preserving and strengthening that role. Our team brings extensive experience in operating chlor-alkali plants and we will invest in the plant’s long-term performance to ensure the region continues to have reliable local access to these essential products. All current employees will remain in their roles, maintaining continuity for customers and the strong culture of safety that Cargill established at this site.”

Chlorum affiliates have developed and operated small-scale chlor-alkali plants in Brazil and Uruguay, with six facilities in operation and two new facilities in commissioning.

“We are confident Chlorum is the right company to take forward Cargill’s chlor-alkali business in Eddyville because of our shared focus on customers, employees, safety and environmental stewardship. We look forward to partnering at this co-location,” said Daryn Kracht, Managing Director, Starches, Sweeteners & Texturizers, Cargill Food NA. “Cargill remains deeply committed to the Eddyville community as we continue to operate our starch plant there and to the state of Iowa, with over 1,800 employees at 12 locations in the state.”

This acquisition builds on Chlorum’s December 2024 announcement of its first U.S. plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, an investment of more than $70 million in safe, proximity-based chlor-alkali production. The Arizona project marked the company’s U.S. debut and demonstrated strong demand for localized manufacturing outside major petrochemical hubs. The Iowa facility represents the next phase of that growth.
