Change in Management at Oiltanking Deutschland

January 22, 2013 [Oiltanking GmbH] - After 19 successful years as Managing Director of Oiltanking Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Walter Dornhof has stepped down from this position as of December 31, 2012. During the last two years, Ulfert Cornelius took joint responsibility with Walter Dornhof of the company. Effective January 1, 2013 Sven Thiessen was appointed Managing Director as well.


Walter Dornhof has been with Oiltanking for more than 36 years. In 1994 he was appointed Managing Director of Oiltanking Deutschland and managed to advance the company to one of the largest independent storage providers for petroleum products in Germany. His personal commitment and passion partnered with his integrity and expertise of the oil industry were crucial success factors. He is greatly valued by both employees and business partners.

Although Walter Dornhof will not be involved in the day-to-day business of Oiltanking Deutschland anymore he will still act as an ambassador for the company. In this capacity he will continue to dedicate his time as President of the MEW (Mittelständische Energiewirtschaft Deutschland), UTV (Unabhängiger Tanklagerverband) as well as Member of the Board for the Federation of European Tank Storage Associations (FETSA).

Ulfert Cornelius has been with the company since April 2000 when he was in charge of the controlling and accounting department. Beginning of 2011 he was appointed Managing Director of Oiltanking Deutschland and took joint responsibility with Walter Dornhof for the entrepreneurial activities of the company.

Sven Thiessen has been working in the oil industry in leading positions for more than 20 years. He has comprehensive knowledge in particular in the areas of tank terminals, logistics/supply and HSSE.

With this new joint leadership, Oiltanking Deutschland is well prepared to take on the existing and future challenges in the oil storage business.

Oiltanking Deutschland is a subsidiary of Oiltanking, the tank storage division of  Marquard & Bahls, Hamburg. With 13 terminals and an overall capacity of 2.3 million cbm Oiltanking Deutschland has a tight network of locations and is one of the largest independent storage providers for petroleum products in Germany.
