BUZIOS 7/FPSO Almirante Tamandare Starts Production in the Pre-Salt Layer

February 21, 2025 [Petrobras]- Petrobras informs that the FPSO Almirante Tamandare (Buzios 7) started production today, February 15, in the Buzios Field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. In total, there will be 15 wells, 7 oil producers, 6 water and gas injectors, 1 convertible (producer and injector) and 1 gas injector, interconnected to the platform through a subsea infrastructure.

According to Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard, Buzios 7 is the first high-capacity unit to be installed in the field. “It has the potential to produce up to 225,000 barrels of oil (bpd) per day and process 12 million cubic meters of gas. The FPSO Almirante Tamandare is part of Buzios’ sixth production system and will help the field reach production of 1 million barrels of oil per day, expected for the second half of 2025,” said the CEO.

“The average capacity of platforms worldwide is around 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 10 million m3 of gas compression. With Almirante Tamandare, we are reaching another level of productivity, which is only possible in fields like Búzios. In addition to the high capacity, we have added configurations that enable greater efficiency and decarbonization technologies,” said Renata Baruzzi, Petrobras’ Director of Engineering, Technology and Innovation.

The Buzios field is expected to soon become Petrobras’ largest production field. “It is highly productive, with substantial reserves of light oil. By 2030, we expect to surpass the milestone of 1.5 million barrels of production per day,” explained Sylvia Anjos, Petrobras’ Director of Exploration and Production.

The unit was chartered from SBM Offshore and, in addition to having a capacity above the industry average, it has decarbonization technologies, such as the closed flare, which contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. There are also technologies for using heat, which reduce the unit’s demand for additional energy.

The Buzios consortium is composed of Petrobras (operator), the Chinese partner companies CNOOC, CNODC and PPSA, the company managing the production sharing contracts.
