Batumi oil terminal continues to work on improvement of environmental indicators
10.08.2010 - NEWS
October 8, 2010 [Trend] - The Batumi oil terminal has commissioned a gas management and gas treatment system at its oil jetties and in some tank farms, the terminal sources told Trend News Agency.

The system provides the organized collection, removal and cleanup of oil vapors in the tanker and ground storage tanks to reduce air emissions. As a result, odor from loading crude oil has been prevented from spreading and the concentration of substances contained in the vapors of oil on the border of waterfront complex and the tank farm has declined in several times compared to the relevant sanitary norms.

Construction of the system is implemented by the project companies: Conty Chemical (Latvia); Kappa Gi (Italy); and the Institute of Oil Transportation (Ukraine).

“This system is part of a nature conservation program coordinated with the Georgian Environment Protection and Natural Resources Ministry. Specific measures were implemented under the program in an attempt to improve environmental performance. In accordance with our program, similar systems of gas purification and vapor recovery units will be installed at all the other tank farms entering the industrial infrastructure of Batumi oil terminal in the near future,” Terminal Head Abay Turikpenbaev said.

Earlier, under the program, the terminal implemented measures to improve the environmental performance of process plants and railroad bridges, conversion and efficiency of water treatment plants, methods of waste management, optimization of quality management systems, and to ensure environmental protection, and health and safety.
