March 12, 2025 [Pipeline & Gas Journal]- Baker Hughes and NextDecade Corp. have signed a framework agreement for the expansion of the Rio Grande LNG facility, with Baker Hughes supplying gas turbines and refrigerant compressors for Trains 4 through 8. The agreement also includes long-term maintenance services for the equipment.

“Utilizing Baker Hughes’ industry-leading rotating equipment and their maintenance services is critical to ensuring the Rio Grande LNG Facility operates efficiently and reliably,” said Matt Schatzman, chairman and CEO of NextDecade. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Baker Hughes as we progress our plans to make the Rio Grande LNG Facility one of the largest LNG production and export facilities in the world.”

Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli said the company is committed to providing “advanced gas technology solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability” of NextDecade’s LNG operations.

NextDecade is advancing plans for Trains 4 and 5, with final investment decisions and construction expected after securing regulatory approvals, EPC contracts, commercial agreements, and financing. The company is also beginning the permitting process for Trains 6 through 8, which are expected to add 18 million tonnes per annum of liquefaction capacity once operational.

Baker Hughes expects to receive equipment orders as the project moves forward.
