Australia's Viva Energy Expects to Restart Geelong Refinery Units in June
05.04.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

May 04, 2026 [Reuters]- Australia’s Viva Energy said on Monday it anticipates that repairs to ‌units necessary to restart the residue catalytic cracking unit (RCCU) at its Geelong Refinery will take around six weeks, expecting a restart in June after a fire in April.

The fire at the largest of Australia’s two refineries on April 15 hit petrol production just as the nation began to face fuel shortages from the Iran war disrupting global supply.

Viva said processes to restart the RCCU are progressing ‌with no impediments identified, and that it continues an investigation of the incident and its assessment of damages and the duration of repairs.

“Production is expected to increase to over 90% of capacity following the restart of the RCCU,” the fuel retailer said in its statement.

Shares of the firm slipped as much as 0.8% to A$2.48 in early trade.
