All Capacity at Eemshaven LNG Terminal Sold

August 04, 2022 [TankStorageMag] – Gasunie subsidiary EemsEnergyTerminal, which operates Gasunie’s new LNG import terminal in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, has sold the last remaining 1 billion m3 of capacity to French utility company Engie.

Czech energy company ČEZ and Shell Western LNG were the first suppliers to sign up for capacity, contracting 7 billion m3 in July 2022 at the terminal, which will double the Netherlands’ LNG import capacity when operational. Two floating storage and regasification units (FRSUs), the Exmar S188 and the Golar Igloo, are expected to arrive at Eemshaven in early September 2022, and the first delivery of LNG is expected in mid-September.

Engie says that the new capacity will strengthen its energy diversification strategy and increase its ability to supply LNG to Europe. Many European countries are actively seeking to increase LNG imports to replace Russian gas, after the EU sanctioned Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.

‘In a period of just three months, the floating LNG terminal is now completely sold out. In the coming weeks, all attention will be focussed on the technical preparation of the location for the floating terminal. This too will take place at record speed,’ says Ulco Vermeulen, member of the executive board of Gasunie.
