Cushing crude oil stocks dropped more to critically dangerous levels

July 31, 2026 [OK Energy Today] – Cushing crude inventories fell another 771,000 barrels last week to 18.599 million barrels, the lowest level at the WTI delivery hub since 2014.

 

The draw brings stocks perilously close to critical “tank-bottom” operational minimums required to keep pumps and infrastructure functioning.
 
While Cushing’s shell capacity is about 90 million barrels, usable working capacity is closer to 73 million once tank bottoms are accounted for.
 
Near these floors, not all stored crude remains readily accessible even though tanks are not empty.
 
The successive weekly declines signal tightening physical supplies at the key U.S. oil pricing and storage hub.
