Motiva Expands Chemicals Operations with Startup of C3 Splitter Towers at Port Arthur
06.24.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

June 24, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Motiva has successfully commissioned its new C3 Splitter Towers at the Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex, marking a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen integration between its refining and chemicals operations.

The expansion project more than doubles Motiva’s capacity to produce high-purity polymer-grade propylene, increasing total production capability to approximately one billion pounds per year. The enhanced capacity is expected to support growing demand for propylene, a key feedstock used in the production of plastics and other petrochemical products.

The commissioning of the new towers represents a major investment in the Port Arthur facility and underscores Motiva’s commitment to optimising operational efficiency and expanding its chemicals value chain. By further integrating refining and chemical processes, the company aims to maximise the value of its feedstocks while improving overall site performance.

The project was delivered through the collaborative efforts of multiple departments and teams across the organisation. Motiva acknowledged the contributions of employees involved in the planning, construction, and commissioning phases, highlighting their role in successfully bringing the expansion project into operation.

With the new C3 Splitter Towers now in service, the Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex is positioned to play an even larger role in Motiva’s petrochemicals business, supporting long-term growth and increased production of high-value chemical products.
