120,000-Tonne Jordan Green Ammonia Projects Secures Land

June 18, 2026 [Gas World]- Hynfra’s joint venture (JV), Jordan Green Ammonia (JGA), has secured 1,000 hectares of land for its planned 120,000 tonne-per-year (tpa) plant in Jordan’s Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).

The lease agreement firms up plans for the $1bn project, which is targeting a final investment decision (FID) by September 2027, and operations by 2030.

Located in the Port of Aqaba, it will combine 550MW of solar capacity and 500MWh of energy storage.

The announcement quickly follows Hynfra’s appointment of US-headquartered Ohmium for front-end engineering design (FEED) on the plant’s electrolysers, as well as at projects in Oman and Mauritania.

Denmark’s Topsoe has already been contracted to conduct FEED work on the project’s ammonia synthesis technology.

Developed under Hynfra’s JV with UAE-based industrial group, the Jordan Fidelity Group, and currently conducting FEED and pre-permitting procedures, the Port of Aqaba project is the most advanced in the Polish developer’s portfolio.

Dr Wael Suleiman, CEO of JGA, said the project would use ASEZA’s abundant solar resources, access to shipping routes, and a steady regulatory environment to ensure its success.

The Jordanian government is increasingly looking to establish the country as a hydrogen hub, developing water desalination, ammonia storage, and export terminals to support the mission.

With high solar and wind potential, the country is aiming for a 31% share of renewables in its total power generation capacity by 2030.
