March 13, 2026 [Expansion Solutions Magazine]- Southern Energy Renewables plans to invest approximately $1.4 billion to develop a green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in St. Charles Parish, expanding Louisiana’s role in advanced energy manufacturing and lower-carbon fuel production.
The proposed facility will convert regional wood-waste biomass into low lifecycle-carbon transportation fuels, supporting growing global demand for sustainable alternatives in aviation and maritime sectors. Once operational, the project is expected to create 120 direct jobs, with an estimated 514 total new employment opportunities across the Southeast Region when indirect impacts are included.
Company leaders said the development will leverage Louisiana’s established industrial infrastructure, strategic logistics assets along the Mississippi River and experienced energy workforce to support commercial-scale fuel production.
“This project represents an important step in advancing scalable, lower-carbon fuel solutions while strengthening domestic energy manufacturing,” said Jay Patel, CEO of Southern Energy Renewables. “Our production model integrates regional biomass sourcing with advanced fuel technologies designed to compete on a global stage.”
The facility, located near hydrogen supply and key transportation infrastructure, will mark the company’s first commercial-scale project in Louisiana as it continues to expand its biomass-to-fuels platform.
Local officials said the investment reinforces the parish’s position as a center for energy innovation and industrial development.
Pre-construction planning and site development activities are currently underway. Construction is expected to begin in late 2027, with commercial operations anticipated by late 2029.
The project is also expected to support supply-chain and vendor opportunities for regional businesses as development progresses.
