October 28, 2025 [Renewables Now]- Irish green fuels producer ETFuels has launched the front-end engineering design (FEED) study on its flagship e-methanol project in West Texas, which it says would be the largest in the US upon commissioning.

The FEED has been assigned to Houston-based S&B Engineers and Constructors.

The project, dubbed Rattlesnake Gap, is designed to meet the growing demand for clean fuels and will serve the local and foreign aviation and shipping markets.

Other partners involved in the initiative include John Cockerill, which will supply electrolysers from its Baytown factory in Texas, and Johnson Matthey with its eMERALD technology to produce methanol.

Backed by French asset manager SWEN Capital Partners, ETFuels has built a portfolio spanning the US, UK, Spain, and Finland. The projects represent more than 2.5 GW of renewables.

The company has two projects in West Texas, according to its website. One targets 120,000 tonnes per year of e-methanol production, and another one is designed for 115,000 tonnes per year.
