CIP Wins Govt Funding for 1.5-GW Green Hydrogen Plan in Australia
03.20.2025 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

March 20, 2025 [Renewables Now]- The Aussie government will back Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP’s) plan for a 1.5-GW green hydrogen hub in Western Australia with AUD 814 million (USD 514.4m/EUR 472.8m) in production incentives.

Murchison Green Hydrogen has emerged as the first recipient in the first round of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA’s) Hydrogen Headstart Programme, the government agency announced on Thursday.

The initiative entitles CIP to receive funding based on the project’s production volumes over a 10-year period. The funding will be released after certain development conditions have been met and after the site’s commissioning.

To be located near Kalbarri, in the mid-western part of Western Australia, the proposed complexshould be able to produce around 1.8 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, using electricity from 6 GW of onshore wind and solar parks. The output is planned to be exported to global markets.

CIP is developing Murchison Green Hydrogen through its CI Energy Transition Fund I (ETF I). Last summer, the scheme was awarded a major project status by the federal government.
