Petrobras Diesel Production Expected to Increase by 120,000 Barrels/day in 2025, Says Director

February 19, 2025 [Reuters]- Petrobras  S-10 diesel output, should increase by 120,000 barrels per day in 2025, with the state-owned company taking a step towards reducing the need to import the fuel and approaching self-sufficiency in the coming years, the company’s director of Industrial Processes and Products, William Franca, told Reuters.

The additional volume expected would represent an increase of around 20% over Petrobras’ current production, which is between 600,000 and 700,000 barrels of diesel per day, the executive calculated.

The increase in production of S-10 fuel should occur with supply increases at the Abreu e Lima refineries, in Pernambuco, and Replan and Revap, in Sao Paulo, scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, according to Franca.

“We still import a lot of diesel, we are going to reduce it significantly,” said the executive.

Although Brazil is self-sufficient in oil production, it still depends on diesel and gasoline imports to meet domestic demand. Some of these imports are made by the state-owned company, and some by private agents.

The Petrobras director highlighted that the company should continue to increase its fuel production in the coming years, with new capacity expansions.

“This is just the beginning of our campaign, next year there will be more diesel. We will carry out small ‘revamps’ at Regap (MG), Reduc (RJ), Revap (SP). This should result in more than 100 thousand barrels/day”, he stated.

“The idea is self-sufficiency (in diesel), perhaps by the end of our business plan, 2025-2029, it will be possible”, assessed Franca.
