January 31, 2025 [Reuters]- Diesel sales by distributors in Brazil rose 2.7% in 2024 from 2023 to a record 67.26 billion liters, according to data published by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) on Thursday.

Gasoline sales, in turn, fell 4% in 2024 compared to the previous year, to 44.2 billion liters, amid a loss of competitiveness versus hydrated ethanol, its direct competitor at the pumps.

As a result, sales of biofuel by distributors soared 33.4% in 2024 compared to the previous year, to 21.65 billion liters.
