L&T to Invest Rs 48,000 Crore in Green Ammonia Production at Kandla

January 15, 2025 [Manufacturing Today]- Larsen & Toubro (L&T) plans to invest Rs 48,000 crore over ten years to develop six green ammonia production facilities at Kandla’s Deendayal Port. Each facility, with a capacity of 300 KTPA, will cost over Rs 8,000 crore and be built in six phases.

Move towards decarbonisation and clean energy

Green ammonia, a critical component of industrial decarbonisation, is produced via water electrolysis powered by renewable energy. It is in talks with many worldwide offtakers about producing and exporting green ammonia overseas.

L&T purchased 500 acres at Kandla Port last year with the intention of developing it into a green ammonia export hub. The company has begun the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the project and is seeking green power supply approvals. It has worked with McPhy Energy of France to produce alkaline-based electrolysers.
