NHPC Plans to Invest USD 646m in New Solar, Hydrogen in India’s Bihar

December 27, 2024 [Renewables Now]- Indian hydropower utility NHPC Ltd announced a plan to invest INR 55 billion (USD 646m/EUR 621m) to develop 1,000 MW of new solar and green hydrogen mobility pilot projects in the eastern state of Bihar.

 

The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the investment plan with the Department of Industries of the Government of Bihar during the Bihar Business Connect 2024 global investor summit.

The planned initiative will advance Bihar’s vision of becoming a hub for renewable energy and green technology. In addition to the new renewable power capacities, it is also expected to create around 800 jobs.

Apart from hydropower, NHPC has diversified its activities into solar and wind. The company has a total installed capacity of 7,233 MW, including 211.7 MW across five solar sites and 50 MW from a wind power station.
