December 09, 2024 [Renewables Now]- Spanish regasification company Saggas and the Port Authority of Valencia (Valenciaport) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on innovation and development of projects related to renewable gases and CO2.

The companies agreed to identify innovative projects that will accelerate the development of solutions for generation, storage, and logistics associated with various renewable gases, including hydrogen and bio-LNG, as well as CO2, Saggas and Valenciaport said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

Saggas operates a regasification plant in the port of Sagunto, which is part of Valenciaport’s properties on Spain’s east coast. The companies’ goal is to create synergies between the new projects and the Sagunto regasification plant.

The partnership will focus on meeting the decarbonisation needs of the maritime-port sector, the logistics chain, and the hinterland, ensuring compliance with European regulations and initiatives such as the European Green Deal, FuelEU Maritime initiative, and the alternative fuels infrastructure regulation (AFIR), the statement said.

The MoU is part of Saggas’ interest in participating in renewable gas and CO2 infrastructure projects and aligns with Valenciaport’s energy transition plan.
