Qair to Install e-Methanol Plant at France's Le Havre Port

November 12, 2024 [Renewables Now]- French independent renewable power producer Qair has won the right to install a green hydrogen and methanol production plant within the industrial area of Port of Le Havre, the second-largest commercial port in its home country.

The company’s proposal was chosen by Haropa Port, an entity combining three ports including Le Havre, following a call for projects last June, Qair said on Thursday. Its project is one of three picked for the specific port area.

Qair will deploy its solution within a 60-ha (148.3-acre) site in the commune of Rogerville, where it aims to produce 200,000 tonnes of e-methanol and supply it to the maritime industry and hard-to-abate sectors. The capacity will be installed under the Methavert project, which is led by the renewable power producer.

Qair and Haropa Port will partner to create a renewable methanol value chain that should help transform the industrial port zone of Le Havre into a green corridor for maritime transport. The initiative is aligned with Haropa Port’s 2020-2025 strategy to promote industrial development within port zones.

“Qair is reinforcing its intention to become a major player in hydrogen, in France and internationally,” said Guirec Dufour, CEO of Qair France.
